Purebred or Mixed?

How to Choose the Correct Breeding Partner for your Mare?

Lusitano-Purebred or Mixed?Purebred or Mixed?   A purebred is always more expensive than a mixed horse, so is the stallion service.   This depends on the stallion’s pedigree.   It also depends on the stud house where it comes from and who are ancestors are.   Another thing taken very much into account is if the stallion is recognized in specific sports and any awards it has won during his life.   This decision really depends on what you intend to do with your new horse.   For example there are competitions that will only accept purebred animals.   Proper documentation must be presented before you can enter your hose into an event.   Race horses are an example of this.   And only pure animals may race in many of the arenas of the world.

Lusitano-Purebred or Mixed? The rule does not apply to most other sports like jumping, dressage, endurance competitions and so on.   This is where the choice of parents must be made with care.   For example, if your mare comes from a family of good jumping horses and you want your foal to be a jumper too you can look at horses with different breeds to mount your mare.   There are many breeds which are recognized as good jumpers and have the awards to prove it.   So take your time and look into those too, your foal will inherit not only the jumping abilities from the stallion but also other positive characteristics his breed has.

Lusitano-Purebred or Mixed?Be careful when doing this mixture.   The horse you chose must be registered and most important, must have the track record and awards that show that he is really good at what he does.   Just because he belongs to a breed known for its excellent performance in this or that discipline does not mean that the stallion you chose has these abilities.   Always pay attention and verify that the horse you like for you mare has the characteristics you are looking for to improve your stable.
