Breeding began again at top speed in Portugal.
In 1662 the breed later to be know as Lusitano began its recovery. Charles II of England was to marry Catherine of Braganza of Portugal and her royal dowry included the Tangier and Bombay garrisons, both cavalry garrisons were mounted on Iberian horses. Again careful selection and breeding began at top
speed in Portugal leading us to where we are now. These horses are said to be the base of the Lusitano we enjoy so much today.
