Lusitano-Historically Famous LusitanosMany of the paintings in the most renowned museums of the world where you see kings and famous people on horseback were done on Lusitano horses.   It is easy for a person with the knowledge and experience on our friend’s characteristics to identify each and every one of them.   It has always been said that the Andalusian and the Lusitano are one and the same but this is not true and DNA has proved it.

Lusitano-032Historically Famous Lusitanos to know about: The first two Lusitanos known and recognized historically participated with William the Conqueror in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.   They were two magnificent black stallions that moved like ballet dancers even while covered in armor, fighting for their lives and the lives of those around them.   Babieca was the Lusitano Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (El Cid) rode into battle on in the 11th Century.   But that was a long time ago and I only mention this to remind you that we are talking about a breed made up of strong, brave, and definitely beautiful horses which have been around a very long time.
