Famous Lusitanos to know about.

 
Lusitano-058Lusitanos are very intelligent animals that enjoy learning and have a very long memory.   Once they learn something they will not forget it.   Today they are used in many different types of sports where they usually excel in their performance.   Lusitanos were originally bred for bullfighting, but soon enough people realized that they would probably do well in any sport.   Lusitanos participate in many sports today, some of these are dressage, endurance competitions, jumping, races, mounted athletics, reining and eventing.   They are also used to work cattle and pleasure riding.   Here are some of the best-known horses which participate in sports today.

Lusitano-024One of the best known Lusitanos in the world jumping competitions is Novilheiro who was born in the Veiga stud farm at Galega, Portugal.   He is ridden in competition by John Whitaker, gold winner in the Olympics and winner of many awards in different world competitions.   Novilheiro is most known because it rose from an unknown horse all the way up to a Grade A competition contender in one season.   Our next well-known champion is Crown Cornelian who is the son of Novilheiro and a show-jumping master.

Lusitanos excell in many sports.

Lusitano-038On the lady’s side, we have Tourmaline Rose, who is the daughter of Crown Cornelian who was registered as a foundation studbook mare.   She won the Hickstead Eventer’s Grand Prix three of the four times she participated.   The Hickstead Eventer’s competition is a very technical and difficult cross-country fence jumping competition.   O Conquistador was appointed the best stallion in the world in 1996, later again he was voted, Supreme stallion and finally the best stallion in Royal Windsor in 2002.   He is also a several times winner of gold Olympic medals.

Lusitano-008Last but not least, we have Fuego de Cardenas who is a dressage champion.   He is known for winning the World Equestrian Games in 2010 and afterward the Olympic games in 2012.   Like these, there are many other Lusitanos that excel at what they do with their masters.   Their superb intelligence, speed, and agility are the weapons they use to achieve anything they want to do.
