Lusitano-Contact-PositionContact-Position is the result of the horse’s experience and natural power.   The animal keeps his head raised and the neck stretched form the base maintaining the same height all the time with no effort or visible tautness of the muscles.   This position and form is not maintained at any time by the rider pulling or holding on to the reins.   This position is the horse’s pride and showmanship that keeps it like that.   The horse should also be able to maintain the same contact with both reins with his head looking forward all the time without having to turn sideways for any reason.

Lusitano-Contact-PositionThe head and neck must remain at all times aligned with his back, its tail and the rider on top of him. Contact also involves the need for the rider to make rein, leg, head or seat movements to order the horse to do this or that. These must be kept to a minimum and the horse must only need a little pressure or movement to understand what he is supposed to do and when. This is an established relationship and understanding between horse and rider which is strictly supervised by the judges.
